Above: Porto VecchioWhen we went to Corsica, we collected our rental car from the airport at Ajaccio and began a hairy journey up a mountain. It seemed that we met a school bus descending the mountain on each switchback of the ultra tiny road. Below us was the sea. Corsica is the island south of France and west of Italy. The language spoken there, known as La Corse, is a mixture of French and Italian. Even on such a small island the varies, with more Italian words in a lot of places. The first thing you will notice is the scent of the Maquis. A mixture of pine and blossoming plants and trees, it is a pleasant aroma that is particularly romantic in the warm evenings.
